Men's Soccer: Eagles Defeat Central Georgia Technical College 3-1
What began as a defensive showdown turned into a win for TCJ Eagles Men's Soccer, who got scores from three different men with the first coming late in the first half against Central Georgia Technical College on Friday. A go-ahead goal midway through the second and an insurance goal near the end led the Eagles to a 3-1 win.
Nicholas Ortiz (assist) hit Jah'Kelsen Jeune with a cross pass from the right side of the goal box, and Jeune fired from right on the goal box line past a sliding CGTC goalkeeper with 6:05 left to play in the first half for the game's first tally.
The team's went into halftime with TCJ leading 1-0.
CGTC tied the score in Minute 68 on Jackson Smith's rebound goal after Christian David knocked down Luis Lopez's first attempt in the sequence.
The score remained tied for the next 6:19 before Liam McDonald (assist) passed to Diego Perez at the top of the penalty box. Perez connected on the left side to put Trinity back in front at 2-1.
CGTC had several opportunities to tie the score, but leaping and diving saves from David and solid defense from the backfield helped thwart those efforts.
Salim Mohammadi added the insurance goal with 2:12 left to play. Mohammdi grabbed the rebound off Dawson Gragg 's shot that a CGTC defender knocked down. Mohammadi hit inside the right post for the game's final tally.
David saved 7 of 8 shots on goal faced, and his defense held Central Georgia Tech to 15 total shots. Trinity took 13 total shots with 10 on goal, and CGTC goalkeeper Alexis Perez saved 7.
The Eagles return to South Region play for their next two matches, both on the road. First, TCJ visits Bob Jones University for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff on Tuesday, September 30. The Eagles will then travel to Carolina Christian College on Saturday, October 4. One more road game to NCAA Division 2 Embry Riddle University in Daytona Beach follows on October 8 before the Eagles return home on October 14.
