Baseball: Brigman Gets Complete Game Victory, Laffrey Homers in Split at Toccoa Falls
The regular season is winding down, and TBC Eagles Baseball will conclude play with a two-day, four-game series at South Region rival Toccoa Falls College. Day 1 featured a split as Toocca Falls came from behind to win the opener while TBC scored early and often and got a complete game from their starter to win the nightcap.
Game 2: Eagles 9, Toccoa Falls 3
Jacob Brigman went the distance, allowing 3 earned runs on 3 hits in 7 innings pitched. He walked 3 and struck out 8.
Toccoa Falls started the scoring in the bottom of the first with a 2-run double from Peyton Powell, and they added 1 more in the third when Chathan Clouatre led off with a solo shot.
Brigman, though, allowed only one other base runner via hit or walk in the other five innings combined, and in none of those innings did Toccoa Falls have two base runners. Brigman retired the last five men he faced, including three straight on strikes before the game-ending fly ball landed in Dominic Gattinella's glove in left field.
Trailing 2-0 after 1, the Eagles began their offensive attack in the top of the second by loading the bases with nobody out. Then, Nate Nogueras's ground ball was bobbled, Seth Reeves singled, and both Logan McGann and Ryan Onkst walked, all to drive in runs. The Eagles led 4-2 by inning's end.
Parker Laffrey smoked a two-run double in the fourth, and McGann drove him in with a base hit later in the inning. Colin Sepulveda drove home Nogueras with a double in the sixth for the game's final tally.
Laffrey was 2 for 4 in Game 2 after having a 4-for-4 performance in the opener.
Game 1: Toccoa Falls 8, Eagles 7
Parker Laffrey hit his first home run of the season in the top of the seventh for what seemed like a nice insurance run. Laffrey launched a 3-1 pitch over the left field fence to make the score 7-3 TBC. He also figured huge earlier in the game.

Laffrey's final line in the double-header reads 6 for 8, HR, 4 R, 5 RBI.
The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings thanks to a two-run first, a one-run second, and a three-run third.
Logan McGann started the game with a walk and eventually scored on an overthrown pickoff attempt to try to get Gavin Williams (single) off first. David Hickey reached on a fielder's choice and soon scored when Colin Sepulveda drew a bases-loaded walk. One inning later, Williams brought home McGann (fielder's choice) with a ground ball.
In the third, the Eagles put together a two-out rally, starting with a walk to Dominic Gattinella and a double from Nate Nogueras. Laffrey doubled home both runners before scoring on Ryan Onkst's RBI single to make the score 6-0.
Nogueras weas 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Michael Cardenas pitched 6 solid innings, allowing 3 unearned runs on 3 hits. He walked 7 and struck out 6. Toccoa scored all 3 of those runs in the fifth then plated 5 in the seventh (2 earned) to come from behind and win. Rylan Smith hit a big three-run home run in that seventh-inning rally and totaled 4 RBI in the game.
Final Game Date
The regular season ends on Saturday when TBC and Toccoa Falls play two more with the double-header beginning at 12:00 noon EDT.
The Eagles will travel to Colubmia International University (Columbia, SC) for the South Region Tournament, which begins on Monday, May 6.
