Bio
Carlin Poyner graduated from Trinity Baptist College in 2023 after playing four years of volleyball for the Eagles and serving as TBC’s softball’s team manager and statistician for two of those years. As a volleyball player, Poyner earned an offensive player award and the Eagle award for outstanding leadership while also being named to the All-South Region team. As a senior, she won the Athletic Director Excellence Cup, the highest athletic honor at Trinity Baptist College.
Poyner coached the Trinity Christian Academy middle school Conquerors for the past four seasons. During her time with TCA, she led her team to the middle school conference championship. She also coached the Soar Volleyball Club for four years.
Poyner uses her experience as both a college player and middle school/club coach to prepare herself for her first collegiate coaching duty. "My time playing in this program has challenged me greatly and prepared me for life beyond college athletics," she said. "All four of my years brought different challenges, but those challenges built teamwork and camaraderie within the program. As a captain all four of my years, both coaches I played under influenced me greatly to love the sport in more ways than one -- not just as a player but as a spectator, a coach, and a friend of the game."
Poyner played varsity volleyball all throughout high school and helped her team win a state championship in her junior year and state-runner up as a senior. She made the All-Conference team all four years of high school and won leadership awards, offensive player of the year, and the coaches award for academic standing and athletic achievement.
TBC Athletic Director John D. Jones calls Coach Poyner “a Godly young woman who is mature beyond her years."
Her favorite Bible passage is Philippians 4:6-7, which says, "Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus." (GNT)
