Volleyball: Eagles Celebrate Senior Night with Exciting Match vs. TCFL
Senior Night 2025 brought plenty of excitement on the court as TCJ Volleyball honored four seniors before the first serve then played an incredibly intense five-set match with the Tigers of Trinity College of Florida. Seniors Kristin Andrews, Ashlee Shaw, Madison Williford, and Ellarie McGatha played their final regular-season game and helped the Eagles to a fun and exciting match. Although the win went to the Tigers, the Eagles played their best volleyball of the season. TCFL won 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 17-25, and 15-12.
Four of the five sets had margins of 4 or fewer points with the biggest margin going to the Eagles in Set 4's 25-17 win. All five sets featured seesaw affairs, and on multiple occasions, both teams took seemingly commanding leads only to see the opponent storm right back.
Set 1 saw a 12-12 tie turn into a 21-21 tie. TCJ then took the lead, but the Tigers scored the next four points to win it 25-21.
The Eagles took an 11-6 lead in Set 2 then got the lead to 14-8. Eventually, TCJ worked that lead up to 24-16. TCFL, though, scored 7 consecutive points to pull to within 1 at 24-23. Set point saw the ball cross over the net six times before Mackenzie Thomas finished with a kill to give the Eagles the 25-23 win and even the match at 1 set apiece.
In Set 3, the Tigers erased an 11-6 deficit to tie the score at 12-12. Five ties then ensued until 20-20 with neither team leading by more than 2. The Tigers then won 5 of the next 7 points to win 25-22 and go up 2-1.
Set 4 saw TCJ go up 5-2 before TCFL tied it up at 6-6. The Eagles went on an 11-6 run to take the lead at 17-12. The lead soon increased to the Eagles' largest of the night at 22-13. TCFL scored 4 of the next 5, but the Eagles got an out-of-bounds point and a Kendra Parker tap down to the floor to win 25-17 and send the match to the decisive fifth set.
In Set 5, the Tigers had a fast start and jumped out to an 8-3 lead before the teams switched sides. TCFL hit double figues to go up 10-6 and soon led 13-7. The Eagles fought back with 4 stright points. The final three points went Tigers, Eagles, Tigers, and TCFL won the match on a kill from Temple Jones.
Andrews, Shaw, Williford, and McGatha all contributed mightily in the effort to help keep the match exciting and give their team a chance to win.
The Eagles will now prepare for the upcoming South Region Tournament, which will occur on November 7 and 8 at Pensacola Christian College.
