Women’s Soccer: Eagles’ Defense, Sims Hold High-Powered Bob Jones to 2 Goals
TBC Eagles Women's Soccer held the defending national champions and second-highest scoring team in 2024 to just two goals thanks in large part to stellar goalkeeping from Brandalynn Sims. Bob Jones, however, was even stingier on defense to allow the Bruins to win 2-0.
Sims saved 14 of 16 shots on goal faced, including 4 from Celeste Baladi. Several of those saves were on the dive. Sims would rank 4th in NCCAA Division 2 with only 1 more game played needed to to qualify at this point; she has 53 saves in 6 games played for an average of 8.8 saves per game.

As usual, the defensive backfield of Alyssa Lechuga, Lucy Rothfuss, and Laine Ford made it difficult for the Bruins to get inside. Most of BJU's shots were from outside the penalty box.
Mia Marks put Bob Jones on the board with 27 seconds left in the first half with a rebound shot off a Sims save that Marks tapped into the top right corner of the goal. Elli Cummings added an insurance goal in Minute 74 with a terrific shot on a free kick from just inside the baseline and well outside the box; the trajectory curved very much like that of a corner kick and sailed just under the crossbar.
Four Eagles took aim at the goal with Ellie Mikeska and Caitlynn Lewis tallying shots on goal against a defense that has allowed only 13 goals in now 11 games played.
The two teams will meet again in Greenville, South Carolina, on Monday, October 28. First, the Eagles will battle NCAA D-2 Albany State University at home on October 12 before two more home games with NCCAA Carolina Christian and NCAA D-3 Agnes Scott College on October 15 and 19, respectively.
