Women's Basketball: Eagles Fall to FSCJ
A halftime time toe turned into a big second half for the opposition as TCJ Eagles Women's Basketball fell to crosstown rival Florida State College at Jacksonville 85-69 on Thursday. FSCJ had a strong start to both the third and fourth quarters and got a big night from their leading scorer to pull away in the fourth.
The Eagles had four players in double figures in scoring. Emma Parrish led the team with 16 points, and Travesha Giddens scored 14. M'lani Vitela followed with 12, and Caroline Smith finished with 10. The quartet combined for 45% shooting from the field with three three-pointers. Kirsten Joseph totaled 8 points while Laila Harvey had 5 and Victoria Broadway and Jaedin Houston each contrinbuted 2.
The game stayed within 6 points either way for most of the first half. Trinity led 22-18 after the first quarter, and FSCJ came back to tie the score at the intermission by hitting 11 of 14 shots from the field, many via the fast break. FSCJ then shot over 50% throughout the second half and scored 24 in the fourth.
Trinity shot the ball well: 41% overall, inlcluding 8 of 13 in the second quarter. They tied the score 7 times and took the lead twice.
The Eagles will host Senior Day at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, when Trinity College of Florida comes to Trinity Gymnasium. The final two games of the season are on the road at South Region opponents Southeastern Baptist College on February 20 and Pensacola Christian College on February 21. The South Region Tournament begins on February 26 at Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, Georgia.
