Women's Basketball: Eagles Set New Season High Score in Win over Southeastern Baptist
A 52-point first half and two 20-point performances propelled TCJ Eagles Women's Basketball to its third South Region win in as many attempts while setting a new season high in scoring as the Eagles defeated the Chargers of Southwestern Baptist College 93-50 on Saturday. The win is the third straight for the Eagles and sixth in the last seven games.
All 10 available players saw action and scored points, and two surpassed 25. Emma Parrish led all players with 27 by sinking 10 of 16 shots from the field, including 4 three-pointers, and 3 free throws. She scored 25 of those points in the first half: 14 and 11 in Quarters 1 and 2, respectively. M'lani Vitela took over in the second half, during which she scored 17 of her 25. Overall, Vitela was 9 for 16 from the field with 1 three-pointer and 6 successful free throws in 6 attempts. She was 4 for 4 at the line in the second quarter and 5 of 6 from the field in the third.
Travesha Giddens also had a big day, compiling 14 points on a 7-for-13 performance to raise her field goal percentage to 50.4%, which is second in the nation. Giddens also had 6 rebounds to keep herself at #15 in rebounds per game.

Parrish scored the first 10 points of the game, and Giddens and Vitela added 10 of the next 14 to lead the Eagles to a 24-8 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter was a repeat performance but four points better as Kirsten Joseph and Vitela combined for 7 of 8 at the line, and Parrish scored 11 more. Giddens, Laila Harvey, and Jaedin Houston added 8 more points, and the Eagles led 52-16 at halftime.
The Eagles had two of their best shooting periods of the season when they made 59% (10 for 17) of their shots in the first quarter and 60% (12 for 20) in the third.
The Chargers, though, played a solid second half, scoring 15 and 19 in the final two quarters by combining for 42% shooting with a trio of three-pointers and 5 foul shots. They got double digits from Jakyiah Ashford (13) and Jamaya Morris (11) and 9 points from Nia English to finish strong.
Desiree Greene and Alexandra Perez each scored 6 points for the Eagles. Joseph finished with 5 while Caroline Smith contributed 4 and Harvey, Houston, and Victoria Broadway each added 2. The Eagles totaled 36 baskets, 5 three-pointers, and 16 made foul shots to amass their season high point total of 93, which is also the second-highest in team history.
The Eagles will face the defending South Region champion and #1 ranked Pensacola Christian College on the home court at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3. A two-game road trip to Toccoa Falls College on February 6 and Bob Jones University on February 7 follows before the team returns home to play NAIA Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Tuesday, February 10.
