Women's Basketball: Three Eagles Have Big Games in Win at Denmark Tech

Travesha Giddens, M'lani Vitela, and Kirsten Joseph all scored in double figures and accounted for three of the game's five highest point totals as TCJ Women's Basketball defeated USCAA Denmark Technical College 84-70 in the team's first contest of 2026. The first half was back-and-forth, but the Eagles took the lead late in the second quarter and held that lead for the entire second half, outscoring the Panthers in all four quarters. 

After jumping out ahead early in the first quarter then losing the lead late, the Eagles began a period-ending run that saw them come from behind by 6 and take the lead 21-20 on a buzzer-beating jump shot from Joseph. 

The second quarter saw several lead changes as the team's stayed within 4 points of each other most of the way. Again, Trinity fell behind late in the period before battling back to turn a modest deficit into a 4-point halftime lead of 43-39. 

Trinity held the lead for the entire second half, outscoring the Panthers 41-31 to put up the final tally. 

Giddens was 10 for 15 from the field to compile her game high of 20 points for the second time this season; with also 12 rebounds, Giddens notched her fourth double-double. Vitela scored 16 on 6 field goals, one a three, and a 3-for-3 stint at the line. Joseph was identical to Vitela in made shots to also finish with 16 points. 

Victoria Broadway totaled 8 points for the Eagles while Caroline Smith and Emma Parrish each tallied 7, Laila Harvey scored 6, and Desiree Greene contributed 4. 

For the Panthers, Malasia Jamison and Saleese Kind each led their team with 17 points, and teammate Jaden Exley scored 13 to help keep the game in check. Jamison also led the court with 14 rebounds for a double-double. 

The Eagles will begin South Region play at home on Saturday, January 10. First, TCJ battles Toccoa Falls College at 2:00 p.m. as the middle game of a triple-header that includes the developmental team vs. Lamar Sports Academy at 12:00 and the men's varsity against Toccoa Falls at 4:00 p.m. TCJ Women will then host the South Region's Bob Jones University at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 12. Three of the four remaining January contests between the 19th and 31st are also at home.
