Women's Basketball: Giddens, Smith Notch Double-Doubles in Win at Beacon

Travesha Giddens and Caroline Smith each notched a double-double, and 7 teammates all contributed points as TCJ Eagles Women's Basketball got a 75-52 win over the Blazers of USCAA Beacon College on Friday. Both Giddens and Smith reached double figures in points and rebounds as the Eagles outscored the Blazers in three of the four quarters.

Giddens led all scorers with 16 points and all players with 16 rebounds in amassing her third double-double of the season. Giddens was 7 for 13 (54%) from the field and 2 for 2 from the line. She also had 8 rebounds both offensively and defensively.

Smith was 4 for 9 (44%) from the field and 2 for 2 from the line for 10 total points and her 6th double-figure point total of the season. She had 5 offensive and 8 defensive rebounds, which gave her a double-double for the first time in TCJ's 11 total games.

The first qaurter was seesaw for the entire 10 mintes, and Beacon led at several points throughout the period. A late Giddens layup after one of her 8 offensive rebounds made the score 18-15, and after Beacon scored just seconds before the quarter ended, Trinity led 18-17. Giddens started the second quarter with another layup, and the Eagles began to pull away from there. They outscored Beacon 45-19 in the second and third to lead 63-36 after three.

Laila Harvey and Kirsten Joseph each totaled 9 points, combining for 7 baskets; all of Harvey's points came on threes. Emma Parrish added a three as part of her 7 points.

Ball movemennt was the theme as the Eagles has their highest assist total of the season at 21. Parrish assisted 5 scores; Smith, Harvey, Joseph, and Greene each assisted 3. Giddens (2), Broadway, and Shayla Mendonca also assisted Eagle teammates in scoring.  

Desiree Greene scored 6 poiints in her season debut, hitting both her free throws in the process. Overall, the Eagles were 10 for 11 from the line and hit 7 three-pointers. 

M'lani Vitela buried 3 of those three-pointers for the bulk of her 12 points while Victoria Broadway contributed 4 and Alexandria Perez scored 2. 

Beacon got double figures from 4 Blazers: Katie Kolaxis (12 -- all on three-pointers), JaLay Harris-Burns (11), Maya Lopez (11), and Melisa Schwab (11). T'Myrah Carter scored the other 7. The Blazers converted 8 three-pointers and had 19 assists. 

The Eagles play two mores times in 2025: at NAIA Abrahman Baldwin Agricultural College at 6:00 p.m. on Monday and at 2:00 p.m. at NJCAA USC Salkehatchie on Friday, December 19. The first game of 2026 is at UCSAA Denmark Technical College on January 6. The first South Region contest occurs at home against Toccoa Falls College on Satruday, January 10.
