Women's Basketball: Eagles Fall to NAIA New College of Florida

TCJ Eagles Women's Basketball played a close game with the Banyans from NAIA New College of Florida on Tuesday, but a first-quarter point differential for the visitors made up almost the entire final margin. Trinity outscored the Banyans in Quarters 2 and 4 and had a close 3rd, but New College held tough for the win, 60-50.

Caroline Smith led the Eagles with 11 points, and 7 of them came at the line in 8 attempts. Overall, Trinity shot a terrific 83% (11 for 15) from the line. Smith also had a pair of baskets, 6 rebounds, and an assist.

Kirsten Joseph and Travesha Giddens each scored 8 points on 3 shots from the field and 2 at the line. Emma Parrish finished with 7, including the team's only 3-pointer, while Victoria Broadway and M'lani Vitela each tallied 6 and Laila Harvey added 4. 

The teams traded baskets for the first 3:34 when Trinity led 6-4. From that moment, New College scored 12 unanswered points to end the period and led 15-6. After falling behind 21-10, Trinity pulled to within 3 at 21-18, but New College did not allow a smaller margin. Trinity won the 4th quarter 11-8.

For the Banyans, Gwen Soukalas led with 16 points with 3 threes while also grabbing 11 rebounds for a double-double. Three teammates also hit double figures: Camila Zbynski (11), Halle Shelt (10), and CiCi Moore (10). 

The final home game of 2025 is against NJCAA USC Salkahatchie at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6. Three road games occur before the the Eagles break for Christmas vacation: December 12 at USCAA Beacon College, December 15 at NAIA Abraham Baldwin Agricultural Center, and December 19 at USC Salkahatchie.
