Women's Basketball: Parrish Reaches Two 1000-Point Milestones against Florida National

Senior Emma Parrish has reached two 1,000-point milestones in her college basketball career. In Thursday night's game with NAIA Florida National University, Parrish first hit 1,000 points overall as a college player then later did the same as a TCJ Eagle. She led her team in scoring as she has many times before, but these points had something extra special for herself -- twice.

Parrish entered Thursday night's game with 999 career points, combining her early days with Webber International University in late 2020 and her four years with TBC/TCJ. Just 2:18 into the game, Parrish took a jump shot; the ball did not go through, but she drew the foul. At the line, where she performs exceptionally well, Parrish sank the free throw that gave her the first milestone. The free throw represented Point #1,000 in her college career. Officials allowed a slight pause for the team to recognize the accomplishment.

She was not finished.

Parrish scored her first 7 points as a freshman at WIU before transferring to Trinity to begin the spring semester of 2021. She began this season with 975 points as an Eagle. She put up 17 in Trinity's first two games on the road last weekend to bring that total to 992.

With 1:39 left to play and having already scored 6, Parrish buried a three-pointer from the corner to reach 1,001 total points as an Eagle.

Parrish finished the game with 13 points for career totals of 1,012 overall and 1,005 for Trinity. She sank 4 field goals, including the three-pointer, and 4 of 6 foul shots.

Florida National, however, outscored Trinity 36-31 throughout the second half to win the game 61-56 after the score was tied at 25 at halftime. The game saw 3 lead changes and 4 ties.

M'lani Vitela followed Parrish with 11 points, and Travesha Giddens scored 10. Giddens and Victoria Broadway each pulled in 13 rebounds to lead all players. Broadway also scored 9 points while Laila Harvey totaled 6, Alexandra Perez contributed 4, and Jaedin Houston added a three-pointer.

FNU's Ziul Gonzalez led the court with 21 points, including 4 three-pointers. Maria de Gracia Karamanites (12) and Kaylee Llanos (10) also reach double figures to lead their team, and Llanos nailed a buzzer-beating three to end the third quarter and give FNU a two-point lead.

The Eagles will play an NCAA Division 1 exhibition on Veterans' Day (Tuesday) when they visit South Carolina State University for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff. The team returns home to face NCAA Division 3 Wesleyan College at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14. A home game with NCCAA University of Fort Lauderdale on November 20 takes the Eagles into the Thanksgiving break.
