Women’s Basketball: Broadway’s Game Winner Completes Eagles’ Comeback vs. Bob Jones

Victoria Broadway drove the lane and laid in the final score with just seconds remaining, and TBC Eagles Women's Basketball erased a 17-point third-quarter deficit to defeat the 9th-ranked Bruins of Bob Jones University 61-60. The win is the second in a row within the South Region and third straight overall for the Eagles.

With 15 seconds left, Broadway received a pass from Kirsten Joseph near the TBC bench. She drove straight into the paint and put up the shot. The ball hit the glass then bounced off the rim twice before dropping through to give the Eagles a 1-point lead with 10 seconds left.

Following a timeout, the Bruins inbounded at mid-court and got the ball to Keely Price, the team's leading scorer. Price went up inside the paint, but Caroline Smith blocked the shot, and the ball hit off Price before landing out of bounds to give the Eagles possession with 2 seconds left. TBC inbounded and ran out the clock to close out the win.

The comeback started after BJU's Anna Layne Wilder hit her fifth three-pointer of the game just 39 seconds into the third quarter to make the score 42-25. TBC then outscored the Bruins 21-6 from that point to the end of the period. Ranajala Brown led that big third period with 8 points; Joseph had 7, and Smith got 6. Trinity scored the final 10 points of the frame. All three of them hit layups for the final tallies to make the score 48-46 BJU.

Joseph started the fourth with a layup and a three-pointer to give the Eagles their first lead since Brown hit the game's first basket. The final frame saw four lead changes and two ties before Broadway's game winner.

Brown and Joseph each led the Eagles with 20 points, tied for second on the court. Smith scored 12 points, blocked 6 BJU shots, and pulled in 13 rebounds. Broadway's 5 poitns and Laila Harvey's 4 proved just as vital in the win.

Wilder sank 8 of 11 three-point shot attempts to lead the court with 24 points; she also grabbed 8 rebounds. Price finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds to help lead the Bruins. Four teammates combined for the remaining 19 points.

The Eagles have one home date remaining; they will host USCAA Trinity College of Florida at 3:00 p.m. on February 8. The remaining schedule has TBC visiting four NCCAA opponents: Bob Jones (February 13), Paine College (Feb. 15), Southeastern Baptist College (Feb. 21), and Pensacola Christian College (Feb. 22).
