Women's Basketball: Smith's Double-Double, Brown's Threes Lead to Win at Trinity College of Florida
Three Eagles combined for three-fourths of the scoring, and one of them led the court with her third double-double of the seaon as TBC Eagles Women's Basketball notched its second consecutive win with a 70-57 victory over the Tigers of Trinity College of Florida on Tuesday.
Caroline Smith led all players in both points (21) and rebounds (14) in getting her second consecutive double-double. Smith sank 9 field goals and all three foul shots in amassing her game-high point total. She also pulled in 8 offensive rebounds and 6 defensive boards to lead the court in a second category –- in addition to assisting 4 other scores.
Ranajala Brown totaled 19 points on 7 shots from the field and 4 of them from behind the arc. Brown also helped in other ways such as rebounding 6 missed shots and assisting 5 scores.
Kirsten Joseph hit double figures for the fourth time in six games. Joseph totaled 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, stole 7 possessions, and assisted 3 scores.
TBC outscored the Tigers in the final three quarters after nearly erasing a 4-point deficit at the end of the first. After facing several 5-point deficits early in the second, the Eagles surged back to tie the score at 18-all with 5:39 left then finished the period on a 13-9 stint to take a halftime lead of 31-27. The Eagles did not trail again.
A gradual build up gave TBC a 14-point margin very late in the third, and the fourth quarter saw the teams play quite evenly.
Laila Harvey scored 8 points and assisted 7 other scores (game high). Victoria Broadway finished with 6, and Alexis Hall got her first 4 points of the season in only her second game.
The Tigers were led by Treniti Fulker, who scored 17 points. Desiree Green (14) and Laney Pearson (13) also reached double figures; three teammates contributed the remaining 13 points.
The Eagles will return home on February 1 to face the South Region's Bob Jones University at 2:00 p.m. Trinity College of Florida will come to town on February 8 for TBC's final home game. The four games that remain afterward are all away, and three are within the South Region.
