Women's Basketball: Eagles Play Hard-Fought Contest with #1 Pensacola Christian

A fourth-quarter comeback effort fell short against the #1 team in NCCAA Division 2, but TBC Eagles Women's Basketball battled Pensacola Christian College to within five before the nation's top seed pulled away in the final 5:17 on route to a 67-50 win.

With PCC leading 45-34 and 7:56 left at a time out, Trinity outscored Pensacola 12-6 for the next four minutes to pull to within five. Ranajala Brown started that run with a three-pointer. Victoria Broadway, Kirsten Joseph, Laila Harvey, and Brown added two-point shots, and Brown converted a free throw to forge a three-point play to make the score 51-46. Pensacola called time out, and the nation's #3 offense took over from there to close it out.

Each quarter's margin was within 7 points and as close as 3.

Harvey led the TBC Eagles with 12 points, scoring 8 of them in the second half. Harvey used four baskets and four free throws to compile her team high total. Brown scored all 9 of her points in the second half (7 in the fourth quarter), and Joseph finished with 8. Alessandra Henriquez scored 7, Broadway tallied 6, and Reniyah Clark and Caroline Smith each contributed 4.

Pensacola Christian got 19 points from Sky Boyd, 15 from Abby Winslow, and 10 from Alissa Brewer to lead their team.

TBC will host the South Region's Southeastern Baptist College at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18. A trip to USCAA Trinity College of Florida follows on January 21 before the Eagles host Bob Jones University and Trinity College of Florida in the final home games of the season on February 1 and 8, respectively.
