Women’s Basketball: Joseph Leads All Scorers in Season Debut, Eagles Win 54-45
Kirsten Joseph made her season debut in a big way, leading all players with 21 points as TBC Eagles Women's Basketball defeated the Indians of USC Salkehatchie State College 54-45 in the first of TBC's two final games of 2024 played on the road this week.
In her first game of the season, Joseph shot 73% (8 for 11) from the field, hit both three-point attempts, and converted 3 of 4 foul shots in putting up the game's biggest individual point total.
Reniyah Clark totaled 14 points on a 6-for-11 performance, including a three-pointer, and added a free throw while Ranajala Brown finished with 13 by sinking 4 of 6 shots (1 three-pointer) and all 4 foul shots.
The Eagles trailed 12-7 after the first quarter but held Salkehatchie to only 3 points in the second to take a 1-point lead at halftime at 16-15. Both teams had much stronger second halves with the Eagles outscoring the Indians 38-30 in the final two periods to earn the win.
Joseph and Brown each stole 5 possessions in putting up a solid defensive effort.
Victoria Broadway scored 4 points in her return to the court, and Jaedin Houston contributed 2 very important points of her own.
The Indians got double digits from Gena Hall (12) and Jataya Brown (10), and Hall had a big rebounding total of 19.
The Eagles will play one more time before returning home and enjoying Christmas vacation. TBC will visit Southern Crescent Technical College (Monticello, GA) for a 3:00 p.m. tipoff on Saturday, December 21.
In the new year, play will resume with a tune-up at Florida State College at Jacksonville on January 7 before the Eagles open South Region play against the NCCAA Division 2's #1 team and defending national champion Pensacola Christian College on January 14.
