Softball: Eagles Rally Late for Win over Bloomfield, Split Two at Spring Break Classic

Cali Dunn capped a late rally to increase the Eagles' lead, and Piper Young made that lead stand up as TCJ Eagles Softball won the first of two at the 2026 Spring Break Classic on Wednesday in Viera, Florida. Trinity erased a 2-0 deficit and defeated USCAA Bloomfield College (Bloomfield, NJ) 6-3 in the opener but fell 12-0 to NAIA Lourdes University (Sylvania, OH) in Game 2.

Game 1: Eagles 6, Bloomfield 3

Dunn's base hit to center in the top of the 6th drove in Piper Young to make the score 6-2. Young reached on an error two batters eariler, and on that play, both Raghan Beckham (walk) and Carlin Payne (walk) crossed  the plate to give the Eagles a 6-2 lead.

Trinity started the comeback in the 3rd. Trailing 2-0 as they came to bat, the Eagles got a 1-0 double from Ashlee Shaw, who promptly stole third. With two outs, Alondra Galindo-Diaz singled to short to bring in Shaw, and Young doubled in Galindo-Doaz, who raced all the around from first. Trinity broke the 2-2 tie in the 5th when Kylea Duhig patiently earned a bases-loaded walk that alowed Carlin Payne (error) to trot home with the official game-winning run.

Dunn and Young each had 2 hits while Payne, Alondra-Diaz, Shaw, and Ellarie McGatha all hit safely. The Eagles also drew 5 walks and played flawless defense.

Young started and pitched her 8th complete game of the season. She allowed 3 earned runs on 9 hits while walking 1 and striking out 6. After Bloomfield scored two first-inning runs on back-to-back RBI doubles from Jaida Hastings and Kate Juskiewicz, Young bore down and kept the opposition scoreless -- even with base runners in every inning -- until the 7th. Bloomfield scored 1 in the final frame and brought the tying run to the plate, but Young struck out the final batter to end the game and preserve the win.

Game 2: Lourdes 12, Eagles 0

Lourdes scored mulitple runs in 4 of the 5 innings on route to the win. Starter Zoe Ziem (2 innings) and reliever Elena Scott (3 innings) combined to allow only 2 walks but no hits. Seven batters combined to drive in 9 runs.
