Softball: Duhig Drives in Three in Win as Eagles Split with D-2 Fort Valley State
Kylea Duhig drove in all three runs, and Piper Young pitched another gem as TBC Eagles Softball split the double-header at NCAA Division 2 Fort Valley State University Monday afternoon in Georgia. The Eagles won the first game 3-0, but the FVSU Wildcats came back for the Game 2 win, 7-0.
Game 1: Eagles 3, FVSU 0
Duhig's two hits produced three runs, and she got those in the third and fifth innings. In the top of the third, Duhig's two-out base hit drove in both Jessica Johnson (single, stolen base), and Ashlee Shaw (walk). Those runs gave Young all the offensive support she would need, but Duhig and the Eagles were not finished.
In the fifth, Young singled with one out and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Hannah Wilen. Duhig followed with a drive into center, and Young scored when the throw in went astray to give TBC an insurance run they would not need.
Young made sure that lead held and did not even allow the Wildcats to cut into that margin. In 7 innings, Young scattered 6 hits with two of them in the same inning only once. Young did not walk anyone and struck out 1. She got flawless defense from her teammates and had consecutive 1-2-3 frames in Innings 3, 4, and 5.
Fort Valley State put two on with two out in the bottom of the seventh to bring the tying run to the plate. However, Young induced a popup to second that Taylor Foster put away to end the threat and the game.
Young and Duhig were each 2 for 3 while Carlin Payne and Johnson each hit safely and the offense drew 6 walks.
Game 2: FSVU 7, Eagles 0
The Wildcats scored seven times throughout the first four innings and got RBI from four different players. Taylor Orr was 2 for 3 and drove in 2 to lead FVSU.
Young recorded 2 more hits for the Eagles while Duhig, Ellarie McGatha, and Foster each hit safely. Like Young in Game 1, though, Tenison Myricks scattered those hits and kept the Eagles from bunching them together and scoring.

The Eagles will finish the regular season at NCAA Division 2 Albany State University on Tuesday with the twin bill scheduled for 1:00 p.m. EDT.
