Ashlee Shaw homered, and the team set a new season high in runs scored as TBC Eagles Softball won the first of two against South Region competition on Friday. Piper Young got the win in TBC's 9-2 win over Paine College, but the Eagles then fell 11-2 to the Carolina University.
Game 1: Eagles 9, Paine 2
The Eagles broke the game open with a five-run top of the sixth that started with Carlin Payne's infield single to third. Jessica Johnson followed with a double, and Shaw drove in Payne with a double of her own. Young then knocked a base hit that plated both Johnson and Shaw, and the Eagles led 6-2.
Two batters later, Taylor Foster doubled to center to allow Young and Emma Wilen (fielder's choice) to score, and the inning concluded with the Eagles leading 8-2.
Shaw's home run came in the second inning with Johnson aboard via a single and a stolen base. Shaw launched a 1-2 pitch over the left field fence for Trinity's first home run of the season.

The blast made the score 3-0. The Eagles got their first run on a bases-loaded walk to Foster in the first.
The final run came in the seventh when Shaw (single) raced home on a passed ball.
Young pitched all seven innings, allowing single runs in the second and third. She allowed 6 hits while walking no one and striking out 1. The Eagles played solid defense the entire game.
Game 2: Carolina 11, Eagles 2
Both runs scored in the top of the fifth. Foster drove in Hannah Wilen (fielder's choice) with a base hit then scored on Emma Wilen's single to left. Carolina, though, had two big innings: a 5-run fourth and a 4-run sixth to put the game away. They had multiple RBI from three different players.
Saturday
The Eagles will play both teams again on Saturday. First, Trinity battles Carolina at 11:00 a.m. then tries for the sweep of the two games with Paine at 2:00 p.m.
Trinity then returns home for a double-header with the South Region's University of Fort Lauderdale on Monday before hosting Paine for two on Saturday, March 15.
