Ashton Karney scored four times in the second half, and the Eagles got four more goals from three different players as TCJ Eagles Men's Soccer won its home opener 8-0 over the Titans of NJCAA Central Georgia Technical College on Tuesday. Karney broke a scoreless tie just moments into the second half, and the Eagles soared from that point on.
Just 1:26 out of the break, Karney found himself wide open inside the goal box. He took a pass from Salim Mohammadi (assist) from outside the penalty area and rifled the ball past the goalkeeper for the game's initial tally.
Approximately four minutes later, Casey Cupit (assist) found Karney at the top of the 18-yard box, and Karney simply tapped his second goal into the net. In Minute 51, Leandro Concepcion (assist) lofted a high pass to Karney, who scored again on a header to complete a hat trick -- all within the first six minutes of the second half.
[Ashton Karney scored four consecutive goals to start the second half.]
He would get his fourth in a row less than two minutes later with the assist from Gabriel Bonini.
The Eagles were not finished. Daniel Moreno scored twice on two assists from Richard Bernardo de Lima, one from Joao Pedro Cury Mendonca (Noah Amesbury assist), and Amesbury (Nicolas Ortiz). Trinity led 8-0 with 4:34 left on the clock.
The Eagles took 40 shots with 23 of them on goal while holding the Titans to 12 shots and 9 on goal. Moreno led with 8 shots, Karney fired off 7, and Amesbury took 5. Nine others combined for 20 shots. TCJ goalkeeper Christian David saved 7 and got defensive help to knock down the other 2. CGTC goalkeeper Alexis Perez saved 14.
The Eagles will play their next four matches also at home beginning with NJCAA Andrew College at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The first South Region contest features Carolina Christian on September 1. Fort Lauderdale and Webber International come to town on September 5 and 8, respectively.
