Men's Basketball: Seven Senior Eagles Get Win on Senior Day

Senior Day success was bountiful on Saturday as TCJ Eagles Men's Basketball's seven seniors all played significant minutes and made significant contributions in many ways as the Eagles hosted the Tigers from Trinity College of Florida. The Eagles led for 38 of the 40 minutes and hit triple digits for the second time this season, winning the game 106-63.

The seven seniors combined for 82 points on 53% shooting. The breakdown is as follows:

Each senior received a rousing ovation from the fans while exiting the home court for the final time. 

The Eagles also got a combined 24 points from non-seniors Jesse Mitchell (6; 2 threes), Josh Bledsoe (6; 2 threes), Jayden Little (5, 2 for 3, FT), Tayden Owens (4, 2 for 6), and Adrian Walker (3; three-pointer). 

As a team, the Eagles shot 51% (42 for 83) from the field, 41% from three-point range (15 for 36), and 58% (7 for 12) at the line.

The only time the Eagles trailed was after the first score of the game 57 seconds in when TCFL's Joshua Lee-Peeples hit the first of his 5 shots. Fitzgerald tied it up 1:03 later. Fitzegerald then broke the tie, and TCJ never trailed again. Fitzgerald led all scorers for much of the first half and entered halftime with 9 points in 16 minutes.

Fitzgerald's 3 points in 7 second-half minutes helped him earn co-player of the game honors along with Fernandez. 

As of the close of play on Saturday, Fernandez leads the nation in scoring average in official games at 24.2. The Eagles as a team are #4 at 86.7. Fernadez is also #1 in free throws attempted (159) and made (189).

The Eagles continued to stedily build their lead throughout the first half by as much as 27 and took a 54-27 advantage into the break. They played just as effectively in the second half, scoring 52 more, and the Tigers scored 36. 

Matthew Suarez led all scorers with 30 points for the Tigers, and Adelyas Reaves finished with 16. Lee-Peeples totaled 11 to help lead his team. 

The Eagles have three road games remaining, and all are within the South Region. First, TCJ visits Baptist University of Florida for a 7:00 p.m. EST tip-off on Tuesday, February 17. The regular season conlcudes on Friday and Saturday, February 20 and 21, at Southeatsern Baptist College and Pensacola Christian College, respectively. TCJ is 3-0 versus those three teams so far this season.

The South Region Tournament runs from February 26-28 at Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, Georgia.
