Men's Basketball: Adams, Fernandez Lead Eagles to South Region Win over Toccoa Falls
Sherrard Adams and Diego Fernandez both topped 20 points, and Tayden Owens also scored in double figures as TCJ Eagles Men's Basketball got its second South Region win in as many tries with an 81-69 victory over Toccoa Falls College. The Eagles trailed by 2 only twice and saw Toccoa tie it only twice, and after reclaiming the lead with 8:24 left in the first half, they did not trail nor allow a tie again.
Adams hit a trio of threes in each half, sinking 6 of 8 from beyond the arc. He was 7 for 11 overall from the field to compile 20 points, all in 19 minutes of work.

Fernandez hit 2 threes as part of his 7-for-15 performance, and he sank 9 of 10 at the line for the game-high total of 25 points. He scored 10 in the first half and 15 in the second. Owens hit 5 deuces and 4 foul shots to amass 14.
The two teams stayed tight for the first 11:36. Trinity led most of that time, but Toccoa tied the score at 3-3 and later erased a 5-point deficit on a three from Jaylon Seymour and a jump shot from Tyriq Brown to tie it up at 17-17 at the 10:27 mark. After Toccoa's Will Gray-Watson gave his team a 2-point lead, Adams put Trinity in front to stay with the first of his six three-pointers. Adams, Fernandez, Shadrack Kakora, Derek Rivers, and DJ Thompson all scored points to help Trinity build a 40-31 lead with seconds left in the half. Josh Bledsoe lauched a buzzer-beating three-pointer from approximately 30 feet on the right side to give Trinity a 12-point advantage at 43-31.
Each team scored 38 points in the second half. Trinity built the lead to 22 at 75-53 with 3:21 remaining, and Toccoa finished with a 16-6 run to close it out.
Brandon Hill scored 7 for TCJ while Maximus Fuentes tallied 4, Thompson, Rivers, and Bledsoe each contributed 3, and Kakora added 2. Thompson also pulled in 11 rebounds.
For Toccoa Falls, Raheem Kone notched a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Brown finished with 13, and Watson totaled 9 to help lead their team. Toccoa Falls got 8 three-pointers from 6 different men. Trinity totlaed 10 three-pointers and converted 17 of 22 foul shots.
The Eagles will host USCAA Beacon College at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13. A trip to Trinity College of Florida follows on January 19 before three South Region opponents -- Bob Jones University, Southeastern Baptist College, and Pensacola Christian College -- all come to Jacksonville between January 24 and February 3.
