Men's Basketball: Eagles Close out 2025 with D-1 Exhibition at FIU

Game play in 2025 has concluded for TCJ Eagles Men's Basketball as the team spent Monday afternoon playing its final NCAA Division 1 exhibition of the season against the Panthers of Florida International University. The Eagles hit 11 three-pointers and 19 free throws. However, FIU shot 54% from the field and sank 13 threes on route to a 121-70 win.

Tayden Owens scored 18 points to lead the Eagles, his second-highest total of the season. Owens sank 5 field goals, 2 of them threes, and 6 of 8 foul shots. He scored the bulk of his points in the first half with 9 of them coming in the first 10 minutes. 

Sherrard Adams set a new season high with 15 points on 4 three-pointers a deuce, and a free throw -- all in 11 second-half minutes.

Also scoring in double figures was Maximus Fuentes for the 8th time this season, counting all official and exhibition games.

Overall, the Eagles hit 20 total shots, 11 of them threes, and 19 of 25 (75%) from the line. All 16 players who made the trip saw action, and 11 scored points. Also contributing on the scoreboard were Diego Fernandez (8), Derek Rivers (4), Josh Bledsoe (4), DJ Thompson (3), Brandon Hill (2), Shadrack Kakora (2), Adrian Walker (2), and Braiden North (2). 

By scoring 70 on Monday, the Eagles finish their 5 exhibition games with NCAA D-1 and D-2 opponents averaging over 60 points per game. In official games, Trinity averages 81.4, which ranks #9 in the nation in NCCAA Division 2.

The Eagles will now pause for the Christmas/New Year's break. When play resumes in 2026, the first game is at NJCAA Florida Gateway College on January 8. South Region play occurs at home against Toccoa Falls College on January 10. Three of the four remaining games in January are also at home, and two are against South Region competition.
