Men’s Basketball: Eagles Dual Paine in High-Scoring Battle
Ten total players, 5 on each team, scored in double figures in one of the highest-scoring battles TBC Eagles Men's Basketball has played in the last few years. Three of those men topped 20 points, but the NCCAA Division 1 #8 Lions of Paine College won it 106-92.
Diego Fernadez led the Eagles and was third overall with 23 points. Fernandez was 8 for 18 from the field and connected three times from beyond the arc. He also converted 4 times from the line to amass his team-leading total.
Xavier Rose followed with 19 points with a 9-for-17 performance that included a three-pointer. On fact, the Eagles got 9 total three-pointers from 5 different players; Jacquez Anderson and Ian Kanady each hit 2, and Ethan Bray had 1.
The Eagles came back from double-digit deficits several times throughout the game and even got to within three at various points, but Paine was able to rebuild that lead back up each time. Trinity shot 44% from the field in the first half and 51% in the second to finish at 47% overall. Paine limited their personal fouls, allowing the Eagles only 16 free throws, and TBC sank 11 of them.
Paine was also terrific from the field, shooting 59% overall from the field, including 61% in the first half. The Lions also hit 9 threes and had the advantage at the line with 19 made foul shots.
Anderson (12), DJ Thompson (11), and Kanady (10) each scored in double figures as the Eagles scored 19 more than the average 73 points per game that Paine had allowed coming in. Brandon Hill totaled 8 points, Bray had 7, and Jace Spinelli added 2.
Quinnton Jackson and Calvin Johnson each totaled 27 points for Paine, and three teammates topped 10. Jocqua Keaton hit 4 three pointers for 12 of his 16 points.
The Eagles will play their final home game of the season against Florida Gateway College at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two games remaining are away at South Region competitors Southeastern Baptist College at 8:00 p.m. EST on Friday, December 21, and Pensacola Christian College at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22.
