Men's Basketball: Eagles Get Huge Second Half in Win over Trinity College of Florida
A huge second half broke the game open, and TBC Eagles Men's Basketball got their third straight win with a 104-75 win over the Tigers of Trinity College of Florida on Tuesday. The win is also the fourth in TBC's last five games. Four players scored in double figures, and six teammates added points in the great team effort.
DJ Thompson had a big night, racking up a season high 21 points. Thompson was 7 for 12 from the field with a pair of threes and 5 for 5 at the line to amass his team-leading total. Diego Fernandez sank 9 of 10 foul shots for half of his 18 total points while Ian Kanady shot 5 for 8 from the field for the bulk of his 13 points and Brycen Rowland got his second double-digit game with 12 points on 4-for-6 shooting from both the field and the line.
The first half was tight the entire way with neither team appearing to pull away for any extended length of time. The Eagles built a seven-point lead at 21-14 midway through the half, but TCFL immediately got a three-pointer to cut it closer. The margin stayed between 6 and 1 until Trinity College tied the score at 33-all on a three-pointer from DJ Nunnary. The teams traded then baskets and free throws until a 39-39 tie at the 1:51 mark.
With the score still tied at 39 and under a minute left, Gavin Korth-Loder stole a pass and hit Fernandez for a wide-open layup. TCFL's Alex Dawson quickly answered with a three-pointer. After a timeout, the Eagles played for the last shot. DJ Thompson drew a foul on a layup attempt and sank both free throws to tie the score and put TBC ahead by 1 heading into the intermission.
In the second half, Trinity Baptist broke out with 61 points beginning with an 8-1 run out of the locker room. The Eagles kept increasing that lead throughout the second half.
