Men’s Basketball: Eagles Take #2 CUH To Final Buzzer
In a game that featured 14 lead changes and 7 tied scores, TBC Eagles Men's Basketball battled the #2 team in NCCAA Division 2 right down to the final moments. Ian Kanady's layup tied the score at 65-65 with 2:23 left to play, but a three-pointer from Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg's Trey McAlmont broke the tie with 1:05 left, and CUH added two free throws to hold on for the 70-65 win.
Kanday's layup gave him 8 points on the night and tied the score for the seventh and final time. Kanady hit three field goals and two free throws for his 8 points as he was one of nine Eagles to score.
Diego Fernandez led the Eagles with 18 points, hitting 6 of 15 shots from the field and 6 of 7 at the line. Xavier Rose and Gavin Korth-Loder each hit double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively. The two combined for 11 baskets, 3 three-pointers, and 12 rebounds to help lead the Eagles.
Trinity first took the lead on a Rose layup less than three minutes into the game. The teams then traded leads 6 more times in the first half and 7 times in the second. Each team make several small runs, but the biggest lead for each team at any time was 7 points, and each reached that margin only once.
DJ Thompson scored 4 points for the Eagles; Jacquez Anderson had a three-pointer; and Brandon Hill, Ethan Bray, and Jace Spinelli, each contributed 2 points in the effort.
Both teams shot the same 45% from the field (25 for 55) while Trinity was exceptional at the line (11 for 13, 85%) and CUH also fared very well at the stripe (15 for 20, 75%). CUH totaled 5 threes to Trinity's 4.
Campbellsville also had nine players score with Evan Frederick totaling 34 points on 12-for-15 shooting from the field and 10-for-14 shooting from the line.
The Eagles will begin South Region play at home when they host 9th-ranked Pensacola Christian College at 8:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, January 14. Southeastern Baptist College comes to Trinity Gymnasium on January 18, and TBC finishes January play at USCAA Trinity College of Florida on January 21. Four of the six February games are on the road.
