Men’s Basketball: Eagles Approach Century Mark at Ave Maria

Offense was in order in Monday's game at NAIA Ave Maria University as TBC Eagles Men's Basketball approached the century mark in besting their previous season-high by 24 points. The Eagles had a 55-point second half to help put up a new season high, but Ave Maria shot 68% in that same frame to win 142-93.

Diego Fernandez was 8 for 17 from the field, including a three-pointer, and added 6 free throws to come up only 1 point shy of the game high with 23. Xavier Rose scored 17 to bring his career total to 963.

After a slow start, the Eagles trailed 32-12 midway through the first half before finishing the period with 26 more points. That run started with an Ethan Bray three-pointer and included five teammates contributing points, including a second three from Bray. They finished the first half shooting 42%.

The team then shot 48% in the second half, and three Eagles hit double figures in that period alone: Fernandez (17), Rose (10), and Jace Spinelli (10). Five of the seven threes came in the second half with Spinelli and Micah Johnson each hitting 2 of them.

Spinelli totaled 11 points on the night. DJ Thompson scored 9; Bray finished with 8; Brandon Hill and Jacquez Anderson each had 6; Josh Bledsoe contributed 4; Jack Peeler scored 3; and Johnson, Ian Kanady, and Ja'Maryus Pringle each added 2.

Ave Maria got 24 points from Jalyen White, 19 from Michael Klekus, and 16 from Miles Monchecourt. Five more Gyrenes topped 10. The Gyrenes shot 60% from the field and made 19 three-point shots.

The Eagles will now pause for Thanksgiving break before driving to Lake City to take on NJCAA Florida Gateway College on Tuesday, December 3. The next two games are both at home against NCCAA Champion Christian College and Ave Maria on December 5 and 7, respectively.
