Men’s Basketball: Eagles Take High-Scoring Clinton into Overtime
Four double-digit tallies and a 9 helped TBC Eagles Men's Basketball take the highest-scoring NCCAA team into overtime as Trinity Baptist played host to Clinton College Monday evening. The game saw four lead changes with two of them in the second half. Clinton came in averaging 99.6 points in five games, but TBC held them to 65 through regulation. Clinton, though, won the game 75-69 in overtime.
Brandon Hill led the Eagles with 15 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field and a foul shot. Diego Fernandez and Xavier Rose each scored 12 with Rose shooting 50% from the field and Fernandez hitting all 4 free throw attempts. Jace Spinelli's 10-point first half, which included two three-pointers – helped the Eagles build a 12-point lead at halftime.
TBC scored first on Jacquez Anderson's layup, and the teams traded baskets until a 6-6 tie. From there, Clinton scored the next 8 to take a 14-6 lead, but the Eagles responded with an 11-3 run to retie the score. After a few more ties, the Eagles got 8 more from Hill as part of a 14-5 run in the half's final four minutes to enter halftime leading 38-26.
Clinton, though, came right back in the early portions of the second half to reclaim the lead, and the game was seesaw from then on. Trinity went up 60-56 with a minute left, and the teams traded more scores until the Eagles held a 65-62 lead in the last 7 seconds. Clinton's Karter Allen sank a buzzer-beating three that bounced off the rim and glass then stalled on the rim for three full seconds before dropping in to send the game into overtime, which led to Clinton's win.
Ian Kanday scored 9 points, all at the line. He was 9 for 10, and the team as a whole was 17 for 20. Gavin Korth-Loder totaled 5 points, Anderson contributed 4, and Jack Peeler added 2.
Clinton's Jordan Snipes Campbell led all scorers with 21 points, and teammates Jordan Maxwell and Denivir Garvey scored 19 and 10, respectively, to help lead the Golden Bears.
