Men’s Basketball: Fernandez, Hill Each Top 20 in Thrilling 1-Point win over Toccoa Falls
Diego Fernandez hit the game-winning foul shot just one moment after sinking the game-tying jumper with 2.3 seconds left, and TBC Eagles Men's Basketball outlasted the Screaming Eagles of Toccoa Falls College in a thrilling South Region contest. The foul shot ended a game-long seesaw affair in which the biggest lead for either team was 6, and TBC won it 88-87.
After Toccoa's Trashawn Wilson went 2 for 2 at the line with 16 seconds left on the clock to put Toccoa ahead 87-85, Xavier Rose inbounded the ball to Fernandez just inside the baseline. Fernandez dribbled past mid-court and used Brandon Hill's screen to perfection to pull inside the arc. With less than 4 seconds left, Fernandez fired from the top right corner of the lane, and the jump shot swished in to tie the score with 2.3 seconds showing.

Toccoa called time out but was out of them, resulting in a technical foul that put Fernandez at the line. Fernandez converted the shot that gave Trinity the 1-point lead.
Toccoa had one last chance, and the three-point attempt from approximately 6 feet inside the front court hit the rim and fell to the floor as the buzzer sounded.
Fernandez's game-winning free throw was his 24th point of the game, which led all scorers. He sank 9 field goals and 6 foul shots to compile his game-high total. He scored 10 in the first half and 14 in the second.
Hill was 10 for 11 (91%) from the field and converted his only foul shot to finish with 21, spreading his points evenly between the two halves at 11 and 10, respectively.

The game featured 10 ties, including 85-85 and 87-87 in the final 26 seconds, and 15 lead changes. Toccoa led 39-38 at the break, and Trinity's last deficit was 51-50 with 14:15 left to play.
Overall, five Eagles scored in double figures, including Jace Spinelli, who scored all of 11 of his points in the second half. Spinelli sank three free throws in one sequence to turn a two-point deficit into a one-point lead at 55-54 with 12:22 left to play. He later made a layup to put Trinity ahead by 4 with 9:12 left and a three-pointer that make the score 69-64 TBC with 7:11 remaining. He was very clutch with a 4-for-5 performance at the line overall.
Jacquez Anderson finished with 15 points, including a pair of three-pointers, and Rose had 12. Rose's final two came at the line with 4:05 left to play to give Trinity a three-point lead at 75-72.
In all, the Eagles were 14 for 20 (70%) at the line; they shot 50.7% from the field, including 56.3% in the second half. They also totaled four three-pointers. Anderson (9), Rose (8), and Hill (7) combined for 21 rebounds.
DJ Thompson contributed 5 crucial second-half points, including a three-pointer that tied the score at 46-46. His deuce gave Trinity a 5-point lead at 73-68, and every point had meaning.
Toccoa got 23 points from Anthony Williams and 19 from Wilson. Three teammates -- Josh Parker (18), Jordan Guthrie (10), and Jeremiah Williams (10) also scored in double digits.
The Eagles' next two are also against South Region opponents: home versus Pensacola Christian College on January 16 and away at Johnson University of Florida on January 18. The month ends with two of the next three away from home.
