Men's Basketball: Figuereo Leads Eagles in Scoring at D-1 JU

Eleven different players scored points against the NCAA Division 1 oppponent as TBC Eagles Men's Basketball played at Jacksonville University Thursday evening. The Eagles had a fast start and a very nice finish to each half, but the D-1 JU Dolhpins used a long run that spanned the two halves to pull away on route to a 97-54 win.

Oramis Figuereo led the Eagles with 11 points on 50% shooting from the field and a 6-for-8 performance at the line. In fact, the Eagles as a team shot 44% from two-point range and converted 71% of their 24 foul shots.

Trinity stormed out to 10 quick points and held the Dolphins to 13 in the game's first 7 minutes, and after JU's 10-point run, the Eagles finished the first half just as strongly as they began with 17 points in the latter portions of the 20-minute period.

Following a slow start to the second half, the Eagles doubled their point total in the second thanks in large part to point contributions from nine different players.

Overall, Diego Fernandez followed Figuereo with 7 points, and Zach Kiadii scored 6. Xavier Rose, Brandon Hill, and Ian Kanady each totaled 5; Jacquez Anderson and Aubrey Howard finished with 4; Gavin Kroth-Loder contributed 3; Robbie Simmons had 2, and Will Mosbach added 1. Howard was perfect in four free-throw attempts.

For the Dolphins, Stephon Payne III and DeeJuan Pruitt tied for the game high with 18 points while Marcus Niblock (13) and Jalen Griffith (12) also scored in double figures.

The Eagles will finish the first semester of play with their final NCAA Division 1 exhibition at the University of North Florida at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16.

After Christmas break, play will resume with four home games between January 6 and 16. Three of those games are within the South Region: Bob Jones University on January 6, Toccoa Falls College on January 13, and Pensacola Christian College on January 16. NCCAA Division 2's Grace Christian University comes to Trinity Gymnasium on January 9.
