Men's Basketball: Eagles Have Strong Second Half at NAIA Southeastern University

TBC Eagles Men's Basketball began its final week of play before the break with a trip to NAIA Southeastern University. After falling behind early, the Eagles stormed back in the second half to come to within two, but the Fire of SEU held off the comeback effort, rebuilding their lead late to win the game 76-57.

After a tough first half that saw them trailing 39-22 at the buzzer, the Eagles started a 28-11 run for the first 10:49 of the second half. The surge began with Jace Spinelli's layup 27 seconds in on TBC's first possession and ended with Gavin Korth-Loder's layup. In between, Ian Kanady drained a three and pair of free throws, Spinelli hit two three-pointers, Brandon Hill and Xavier Rose put in several layups, and Zach Kiadii sank two short jumpers.

Overall, the Eagles shot 43% in their strong second half, including 4 three-pointers, and shot a solid 65% overall from the line, including 5 of 7 in the second half.

Meanwhile, the defense held SEU to only 6 of 17 from the field during that stretch, and the score was 52-50 with 9:11 left to play. Southeastern, though, caught fire from that point on and pulled away for the win, using 10 of 14 free throws as part of their 26 points in game's final 9:11.

Rose led the Eagles with 11 total points, and Kiadii finished with 10. Hill and Spinelli each totaled 8, Jacquez Anderson had 7, Kanady contributed 5, Diego Fernandez scored 4, and Korth-Loder and Oramis Figuereo each added 2.

The Eagles will finish the first semester of play with two exhibition games at Jacksonville's NCAA Division 1 schools. First, TBC visits Jacksonville University at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 14. The semester then ends at the University of North Florida with a 2:00 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, December 16.

Play will resume on January 6 when the Eagles begin a four-game home stand with three of those games against South Region foes, beginning with Bob Jones University.
