Men’s Basketball: Five Eagles Hit Double Digits at D-2 Valdosta State

DJ Thompson led five Eagles in double-digit scoring and tied for the game high overall as TBC Eagles Men's Basketball topped 80 points in their exhibition game at NCAA Division 2 Valdosta State University. The Eagles scored 40 in each half, but VSU won the game 107-81.

Thompson amassed his game-high 17 points on a 7-for-9 performance from the field, which included three three-point shots. In fact, the team overall hit 12 three-pointers, including three each from Diego Fernandez and Jace Spinelli. Those two Eagles totaled 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Also hitting double digits were Jacquez Anderson with 12 and Zach Kiadii with 11. Anderson buried two three-point shots, and Kiaddi shot 56% from the field.

The Eagles gave their best performance of the season against NCAA Division 1 and 2 opponents, shooting 45.6% from the field, hitting 12 three-pointers, and converting 64% of their free throws.

Xavier Rose scored 6 points in the effort while Brandon Hill and Gavin Korth-Loder each contributed 2.

Two VSU players, LaTrell Tate and Jack Wetzel, tied Thompson for the game high in scoring. Tate and Wetzel combined to hit 9 of Valdosta State's 15 three-point shots, and the team as a whole shot 57% from the field. Four teammates hit double figures in scoring.

The Eagles will break for Thanksgiving and hit the road for a pair of South Region contests on Thursday and Friday, November 30 and December 1. First, TBC visits Southeastern Baptist College for a 7:00 p.m. EST tip-off on November 30. The I-10 rivalry then resumes as TBC visits Pensacola Christian College on December 1.

Two more road games follow at NAIA competitors Coastal Georgia and Southeastern University on December 9 and 11 before the final two NCAA Division 1 exhibitions at Jacksonville University and the University of North Florida on December 14 and 16 to close out 2023.
