Baseball: Eagles Tie Season High in Runs in Win over Florida Memorial
Offense was the theme of the day as TCJ Eagles Baseball pounded out 17 hits, drew 6 walks, and tied their season high in runs to end the month of March on a very high note. Trinity defeated NAIA Florida Memorial Univesity 14-6, and in the process got multiple hits from four men with three of them getting 3 or even 4. The Eagles scored crooked numbers in 4 of their 8 at bats as the home team on a neutral field in Viera, Florida.
Dominic Gattinella led all players with 4 hits in 5 at bats. He also drove in 3 runs and scored 3.

Larson Lott and Jacob Burke each notched a trio of hits. Lott was 3 for 6 with 1 RBI as the leadoff hitter, and his courtesy runner, Morgan Muhlbauer, scored twice. Burke was 3 for 4 with 1 walk, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored in the #5 hole. Tyson LaChapelle was 2 for 4 and drove in 3 while scoring 1.
The Eagles erased an early 2-0 deficit when they came to bat in the botom of the 1st. Gadriel Burgos brought in the first run after Lott's double with a ground ball, and Gatinella followed with his first hit, a single that drove in Gavin Williams (single) to tie the score. Gatinella then scored as FMU turned an out on the base paths. Trinity led 3-2 after 1.
TCJ put 5 more on the board in the 4th on RBI's from Lott (single), Burgos (bases-loaded walk), Gatinella (2-run single), and Burke (single).
Florida Memorial rallied for a 3 runs in the top of the 6th, but Trinity answered that rally with 4 in the bottom half on RBI's from LaChapelle (bases-loaded hit batsman), Richaun Amaro (ground ball), Darren Goeke, Jr. (single), and Logan McGann (single). A final 2-run double from LaChapelle in the 7th put the game out of reach depsite an unearned run for FMU in the 9th.
Goeke reached base 4 times (hit, 3 walks) while scoring 1 and driving in 1. He also pitched 2 scoreless innings in the 7th and 8th with 4 strikeouts, 1 hit, and 1 walk. Burgos was 1 for 2 with 2 walks, 2 runs, and 2 RBI.
Chance Helvey took the mound with a runner on and nobody out in the 2nd inning but did not let the runner score. He then pitched 3 more scorless innings to earn the win.

Trey Rosado entered in the 6th with 2 on and 1 out and stopped FMU's rally by fanning 2 of the 3 men he faced before giving way to Goeke in the 7th. Drew Billings worked the 9th to close it out.
The Eagles will now have a 10-day game break. When play resumes, the team will travel to Toccoa Falls College for a massive South Region rivalry match-up on Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11. Friday's single game will start at 6:00 p.m. EDT, and Saturday's double-header will begin at 12:00 noon.
