Baseball: Double-Digit Scoring Leads to South Region Win over Baptist Florida
Four multi-run innings and a fantastic relief outing led TCJ Eagles Baseball to its third consecutive double-digit run total and a South Region win over the Eagles of Baptist University of Florida on Friday. Trinity scored 7 runs in the first four innings, and Richaun Amaro stifled a comeback effort in reilef as Trinity won the game 12-6.
Taking the mound in the bottom of the sixth after Baptist closed the deficit down to 7-5, Amaro pitched 4 innings of 1-run ball to stop any further attempt to come from behind. Amaro retired the side in order in the 6th with a pair of strikeouts and a ground ball in between and allowed only one base runner in the 7th. After that leadoff walk, Amaro fanned two and got a popup to second baseman Tyson LaChapelle to maintain that 7-5 lead.
Trinity added 4 runs on 1 hit in the top of the 8th. Austin Szala was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Larson Lott walked. Dominic Gattinella was also hit, and LaChapelle blooped a single to right. In the inning, TCJ drew two walks and three hit batsmen to highlight the rally. Trinity led 11-7 at the inning's end.
Baptist scored 1 in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly, but Trinity answered in the 9th with another bases-loaded walk to Gattinella. Amaro then pitched a perfect 9th to close it out and earn his first collegiate save.
