Baseball: Eagles Finish Play at Russ-Matt in Orlando

On Friday, TCJ Eagles Baseball completed play at the 2026 Russ-Matt Invitational in Orlando. After winning 2 of 3 against tough NAIA competition last weekend, the Eagles battled three more very strong NAIA programs, including a Top 10 team. On Thursday, TCJ played North Dakota's Valley City State University. On Friday, the Eagles dealt with Nebraska's NAIA #8 Bellvue University and North Dakota's Mayfield State University. Although TCJ lost all three games (7-4, 9-1, and 14-7, respectively), a number of Eagles had strong showings at the plate and on the mound. 

Dominic Gattinella led the offense by hitting .462 in the three games. Gattinella was 6 for 13 with a pair of doubles, a walk, 1 RBI, and 2 runs scored. He also stole 2 bases in 2 attempts. Larson Lott, Tyson LaChapelle, and Richaun Amaro each totaled 4 hits and combined to hit .375. Lott drove in 4 runs, which led the offense over the three games. 

As a team, the Eagles hit .297, scored 12 runs, drove in 10, drew 18 walks and 5 hit batsmen, and stole 2 bases. LaChapelle was 4 for 7 with 2 walks, 1 hit batsman, and 1 run scored. Gadriel Burgos drove in 3 runs at the plate. Burgos is tied for 9th in the NCCAA with 26 RBI. Logan McGann is tied for first with 20 stolen bases. 

On the mound, Chance Helvey, Drayton Black, and Trey Rosado combined for only 1 earned run on 7 hits in 11 innings pitched. The trio struckout 11 men and walked 6. Jackson Taylor also has a scoreless relief appearence. Helvery and Rosado allowed 1 earned run in 7 combined innings.

The Eagles will contiinue with NAIA opposition for their next 4 games when they return to Trinity Ballyard for a double-header with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College at 12:00 noon on March 17 and again on March 24 against Thomas University for two. March's schedule then concludes with a three-game series at the South Region's Baptist University of Florida on Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28.
