Baseball: Brigman Shuts Out Bob Jones in Game 2 of DH Split

Jacob Brigman pitched a complete-game shutout in Game 2 to earn TCJ Eagles Baseball a split of Saturday's double-header at Bob Jones University after the BJU Bruins won the opener. The Game 2 win gives the Eagles a 4-1 season series win over the South Region rivals with 1 game rained out. It was the first complete game of the season for the junior southpaw and his third win of the season.

Game 2: Eagles 5, Bob Jones 0

Brigman pitched all 7 innings, allowing just 3 singles and 2 doubles while walking 2 and striking out 3. He had only one 1-2-3 innings, the bottom of the 4th, but after allowing base runners early in 4 of the other 6 innings, Brigman bore down to get consecutive outs and retire the side. He allowed only one base runnner in five of his seven innings.

Offensively, the Eagles got a first-inning RBI double from Larson Lott for their first run. Richaun Amaro walked with 1 out, stole both second and third, and scored on Lott's two-bagger. Markeinis Brown's 2-run double in the third plated Gadriel Burgos (single) and Lott (double).

The Eagles added two insurance runs in the seventh when Cooper Scruggs drove in Logan McGann (double) with a base hit then scored on a double error from the catcher and center fielder as Scruggs stole second base.

The Eagles had 7 hits, including 4 doubles from McGann, Lott (2), and Brown. Scruggs, Burgos, and Jacob Burke also hit safely for TCJ. Mannix Crawford was the only Bruin to hit safely twice for Bob Jones.

Game 1: Bob Jones 13, Eagles 2

Williams put Trinity ahead 1-0 with a sacrifice fly right in the top of the 3rd to bring in McGann (fielder's choice). After Bob Jones tied it at 1-1 in the 4th on a sacrifice fly, Lott smacked a solo home run in the 5th to give Trinity back the lead at 2-1.

Brodie Nichols pitched into the 5th, and he left with that lead but the tying and go-ahead runs on base with 1 out. The Bruins eventually tied the score on a bases-loaded walk then took the lead for good with a 2-run single from Evan Johnson. Bob Jones then scored 9 times in the 6th to put the game away without getting a base hit. BJU drew 7 walks and 3 hit batsmen as part of the unusual rally.

Nichols pitched 4.1 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2.

Trinity got 2 hits each from Amaro and Dominic Gattinella and one each from Scruggs, Burgos, and Brown in addition to Lott's home run.
