Baseball: Brigman Pitches Shutout in Split with Northwestern Iowa

Jacob Brigman shut down the opposition, and Larson Lott dove in two runs to help seal the win as TBC Eagles Baseball rebounded from a loss in Game 1 to earn the win in Game 2 and split the double-header with NAIA Northwestern University of Iowa on Saturday. The games concluded the Russ-Matt Invitational that saw Trinity Baptist win 4 of 6 games against NAIA competition.

Game 2: Eagles 5, NWIA 0

Brigman allowed only 2 singles in 7 innings of his complete-game shutout. He walked 3 and struck out 7. He had 5 innings of 1-2-3 without allowing a base runner, including the bottom of the seventh, in which he fanned the final two batters of the game.

Lott's RBI's came in the first and fifth innings and drove in the Eagles' first and fifth runs. In the first, Lott's ground ball allowed Logan McGann (hit by pitch) to score what eventually became the winning run. In the fifth, Lott walked with the bases loaded after Gavin Williams drove in Dominic Gattinella (error) with a base hit to make the score 4-0.

In between, Trinity got single runs in the second and third innings. Darren Goeke, Jr. walked and soon found himself on third when a wild pitch allowed him to score. An inning later, Gattinella drove in Seth Reeves (single) to make the score 3-0.

Williams was 2 for 5; Goeke walked twice and scored both times.

Game 1: NWIA 7, Eagles 1

Trinity scored in the bottom of the first on Lott's base hit that plated Williams (walk, stolen base). However, that was all the Eagles got off NWIA's Drew Dykstra, who went the distance on 2 hits, 2 walks, and 9 strikeouts.

Northwestern scored 6 times in the top of the fourth, capped by Devin Dirkx's two-run home run.

Andrew Mohler and Caiden Butler combined for 3.1 innings of relief, allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits and 4 strikeouts. Butler pitched a perfect seventh inning.
