Baseball: Eagles Open Play at NCCAA -2 Invitational vs. Arlington Baptist

The return of the NCCAA Division 2 Invitational in Forth Worth, Texas, saw TBC Eagles Baseball begin the tournament with the Patriots of Arlington Baptist University in the opening round. Jacob Brigman was his usual stellar self on the mound, and the offense scored three runs late in attempt at a third comeback win of the season. However, the rally was 1 run short, and a single miscue allowed Arlington Baptist to win 6-5.

Brigman pitched his third complete game of the season in 4 starts. He allowed just 2 earned runs on 3 hits while walking 5 and striking out 6. He got the Patriots out in order in four times, including his final three innings.

Offensively, the Eagles scored the tying run in the top of the second on Nate Nogueras's RBI single that plated Larson Lott (single).

In the third, a run-scoring base hit from Major Cantrell put ABU ahead 2-1 before an overthrow allowed three unearned runs to cross the plate, and another RBI single followed to put ABC ahead 6-1.

The Eagles responded with a double steal in the fourth; Logan McGann (single) took off for second, and on the throw Seth Reeves (walk) raced home to make the score 3-2.

An inning later, the Eagles rallied for three thanks to RBI from three different hitters. Tyson LaChapelle drove in Darren Goeke, Jr. (hit by pitch) with a double, Reeves brought home Lott with a ground ball, and Dominic Gattinella scored Jacob Burke (pinch runner for Lachapelle) with a double. ABU's Ryan Mendiola, however, then got out of the inning and pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to close it out.

The Eagles will play two on Friday. First, TBC faces the South Region's Southeastern Baptist College at 2:00 p.m. EDT. The nightcap features Trinity Baptist versus Champion Christian College at 8:00 p.m. Start times may vary due to earlier games running long.

Pool play will determine Saturday's games, if any, for the Eagles.
