Baseball: Season Ends with Tournament Game vs. Bob Jones, Five Eagles Earn South Region Honors
TBC Eagles Baseball finished its 2024 season by taking on the Bruins of Bob Jones University for the chance to advance to the semifinal round of the 2024 South Region Tournament. Gavin Williams homered late to put the Eagles on the board, but the Bruins scored four runs in the middle of the game and four more late to secure the 8-2 win.
In the bottom of the sixth, Williams launched his third home run of the season to straight away center field with Ryan Onkst aboard via a walk. The home run was one of four hits for the Eagles. Jacob Burke was 2 for 3, and David Hickey had a single in three trips.
All South Region
Five Eagles earned South Region Honors for their performance in the regular season and the tournament.
Sophomore pitcher Michael Cardenas and freshman outfielder/designated hitter Gavin Williams made the all-region first team.
Cardenas finished 2024 with a record of 3-2 and a 3.21 ERA in 10 games (8 starts) after missing the first month due to injury. Cardenas pitched 42 innings, allowing just 15 earned runs on 46 hits while walking 30 and striking out 47.

The All-South Region second team honors go to the following:
- Ryan Onkst: .288 BA, .429 OBA, 9 2B, team-leading 23 RBI, .973 FPCT as C/DH.
- David Hickey: .302 BA, .407 OBA, 2 HR, 18 RBI as primarily 1B.
- Logan McGann: .365 BA, .424, 6 RBI, 9/10 SB, in 32 G as 3B, SS, and 2B.
Though he missed most of the season, head coach Jon Copeland kept up with the team's progress via live video, live stats, GameChanger, and personal conversation.
Coach Copeland expressed his delight in seeing five of his players named All Region. "Getting five of our players selected to the NCCAA All-South Region baseball team is excellent!" he said. "We are in the most competitive region in the country, and to be selected by the region's other coaches onto this team involves a significant level of talent and hard work."
Coach Copeland also reviewed the success the program has had in its 10-year history. "Also, over the 10 years of the TBC Baseball program's existence, we have had over 50 players selected as All-Region, so these five players just add to the tradition and legacy of great player development within our program," he said.
Copeland has led the Eagles for all 10 seasons. Interim head Coach Jordan Broaden led the team to a winning 14-13 record, including a postseason win, in Copeland's absence in 2024.
TBC Baseball also says goodbye to three seniors who have finished their TBC Baseball careers: Onskt, Joseph Labas, and Parker Laffrey. The Eagles wish them a blessed life and cherished memories of Trinty Baptist College.
A team of mostly freshmen and sophomores competed well with scholarship teams loaded with experienced upper classmen. A new recruiting class is also on the way. The Eagles have the talent; with the newly-gained and coming experience, they are set to make even more noise in the South Region in 2025.
