Baseball: Reeves, Eagles Walk Off in Win of DH Split with Atlantis

Seth Reeves drove in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh of Game 2, and David Hickey homered early as TBC Eagles Baseball fought back from a loss to earn a split of Friday night's double-header with USCAA Atlantis University. The Eagles won the nightcap 6-5 after Atlantis took the opener 8-2.

Game 2: Eagles 6, Atlantis 5

With runners at the corners and two outs, Reeves – down to his final strike – hit a soft line drive into center that fell in front of two charging outfielders and dropped safely for a single. Gavin Williams scored on the hit, and the Eagles completed their second comeback of the game with the walk-off win.

After the first two men were out, Williams drew a walk. Hickey then singled into left center, and Williams gambled in advancing from first to third and beat the throw by plenty. Reeves then followed with his second hit of the game.

Reeves would figure largely in the sixth, too. After entering the game in the #4 hole in the top of the fifth, Reeves led off the sixth with a base hit and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Parker Laffrey. Dominic Gattinella's hard grounder to the left side was snared, and on the throw to first, Reeves took off and beat the throw back to third to set himself up for Nate Nogueras, who drove him in with a base hit.

Trinity jumped out to an early 3-0 in the first lead thanks to Hickey's long two-run home run down the left-field line with Williams aboard (hit by pitch).

[David Hickey hit his first college home run in the first inning.

Later in the inning, Laffrey walked, and Gatinella doubled off the left-center field fence to drive in Laffrey from first. The score remained 3-0 until the third.

Atlantis took advantage of four walks in the top of the third, and all four Atlanteans scored via a passed ball, a walk, and a bloop two-run single from Jonathan Vasallo to give Atlantis a 4-3 lead. Trinity, though, tied the score at 4 in the fourth when Colin Sepulveda drove in Nogueras (double) with a sacrifice fly. Atlantis regained the lead in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Jonthan Mustelier. The Eagles then made their second comeback before walking it off.

Drew Billings won it in relief with two solid innings of 1-run ball. He allowed 2 hits and 1 walk. He struck out the final batter he faced with two on in the seventh to get out of a jam. Elijah Syrkus and Brandon Hoang each pitched a scoreless inning in relief after Darren Goeke, Jr. started and pitched three innings.

Game 1: Atlantis 8, Eagles 2

A four-run sixth sealed the win for the visitors, and all four reached and scored after the first two were out.

Each team scored a run in the first. Graham Gorman led off with a double for TBC and scored on a base hit from Williams. Trinity got their second run in the fifth when Hickey drove in Williams (double) with a single.

Atlantis got two in the fourth and one in the fifth to go ahead 4-2. Nathaniel Gomez and Gianni Rodriguez each drove in two in the game to lead Atlantis while Williams, Hickey, and Nogueras each had a pair of hits for the Eagles.
